Meet the Team James

29th October 2024

At Resimac, success comes from the wide range of skills and expertise within our team. In this ‘Meet the Team’ series, we continue to introduce you to those who contribute to our work. Today, we’re featuring James Brand, a skilled chemist specialising in formulation development. Since joining in 2021, James has been involved in various projects, applying his problem solving approach to improve our products and meet industry requirements.

Background and Journey with Resimac

James graduated from the University of Nottingham with a master’s in chemistry and joined Resimac in October 2021. His passion for research and development has driven him to focus on creating and refining new formulations.

The most rewarding part of my role has been the opportunity to experiment with different formulations to achieve the desired properties. I enjoy the process of trial and error.

Since joining, James’s responsibilities have grown, and he now manages his own projects, playing a key role in product development.

Q&A with James Brand

What’s your favourite part of working at Resimac?

I really enjoy the environment Resimac has cultivated with everyone chipping in to help each other out.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests?

I enjoy going to play the bingo with my family, watching Trash Tv ( Hells Kitchen) and reading a lot of books.

Can you share a memorable moment or achievement with your team?

It would be when I helped Ian Robinson with an issue with the manufacture of 320 Resiline.

What personal or professional goals do you hope to achieve in the next year?

My personal and professional goal is to gain more confidence.

If you could master any skill instantly, what would it be and why?

If I could master any skill, it would be to speak Spanish, as my best friend is half Spanish, so it would be nice to properly talk to his family and him.

If you could have dinner with any three people, dead or alive, who would they be and why?

Ryan Letourneau: I would just love him there for his humour and anecdotes, and he would keep me entertained all night.

Eiichiro Oda: He created my favourite book series, and the chance to be sat near him and talk to him would leave me starstruck.

NADDPOD: I am cheating here, but I couldn’t pick just one! I would want to invite the cast of my favourite podcast.

What’s something surprising about you that your colleagues might not know?

I have two. One is that I compete with my dad on University Challenge, and in the current season, I am currently beating him. Second, I am very into the e-sport Valorant, and I’m looking to see it live in 2025.

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?

If I could have any other job for a day, it would be a detective, as I think the process of finding clues and trying to work out motives and what’s happened is interesting.

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?

I think if I could live anywhere for a year, it would be Japan. Immersing myself in their rich culture and history would be amazing.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best Advice I ever got told is: You are the protagonist of your own life.

Looking Ahead

James is eager to contribute to Resimac’s continued growth, particularly by taking on more complex projects and developing his formulation skills. As he gains confidence in his role, he looks forward to being part of the company’s future innovations and successes.

“What I’m most looking forward to is the growth of the company, as it’s exciting to see what the next step is going to be.”

For those entering the field, James’s advice is clear: Stay curious and always ask questions. He believes that curiosity and a willingness to learn are key to professional growth.
