Industry: Marine
Location: Portugal
Application: Pump Repair
Products: 201 Ceramic Repair Paste, 202 Ceramic Repair Fluid, 501 CRSG
The Challenge
Internal abrasion from seawater flow had caused significant surface damage inside the pump, while external exposure had led to corrosion. With operational efficiency at risk, the client sought a long term repair strategy to rebuild and protect both internal and external surfaces without needing to replace the unit or remove it from service for extended periods.
The Application
Both internal and external surfaces were abrasive blasted to ISO 8501/4 SA 2.5 (SSPC SP 10/NACE 2) standards, achieving a 75 micron angular surface profile. 201 Ceramic Repair Paste was used to rebuild pitted areas within the pump interior. Once cured, two coats of 202 Ceramic Repair Fluid were brush applied at 350 microns each, creating a smooth, durable barrier against abrasion and erosion.
Externally, the pump body was treated with two coats of 501 CRSG, a surface tolerant epoxy designed to protect against atmospheric corrosion. The full application process was completed in a controlled workshop environment using only brush and roller, ensuring full coverage and consistent film build.
The Solution
This multi-product repair system delivered comprehensive protection, rebuilding worn areas and sealing the pump against further damage. The process required no hot work or disassembly, keeping project time and risk to a minimum. The solution not only extended the pump’s operational life but also significantly reduced the likelihood of unplanned maintenance in the future.
Results & Benefits
- Internal pitting rebuilt to restore performance and integrity
- Dual layer protection prevents future erosion and corrosion
- No hot work, welding, or pump removal required
- External coating withstands harsh marine exposure
- Application completed with minimal disruption
- Long term durability achieved with brush applied repair system
