How to Repair Leaking Pipe: Industrial Pipe Seal & Tape

27th January 2025
To prevent costly downtime and environmental hazards, maintenance teams must know how to quickly repair a leaking pipe using professional grade materials. Whether dealing with high pressure systems or emergency cracks, choosing the right industrial pipe solution is critical for long term reliability.
This is especially vital considering that over 80% of global pipelines are made of steel. Even the most robust industrial pipe is susceptible to failure, corrosion alone costs industries billions annually. For example, unprotected steel in marine environments can corrode by up to 0.2mm per year.
Quick Solutions to Repair a Leaking Pipe
When a leak is detected, the choice of repair depends on the pressure, temperature, and chemical makeup of the fluid. Resimac provides engineered solutions to repair a leaking pipe and restore structural integrity:
Emergency Leaks: Pipe Repair Tape
For immediate intervention on live leaks, 108 Pipe Repair Tape is the most effective tool. This water activated, fast curing bandage allows you to seal a leaking pipe in under 30 minutes, handling pressures up to 15 Bar (218psi).
High Pressure & Structural Failure
If an industrial pipe has suffered significant thinning or a failed weld, a composite reinforcement is required:
- 310 Carbon Fibre Pipe Wrap: Best for strengthening pipelines under extreme pressure
- 101 Metal Repair Paste: A heavy duty epoxy used to fill cracks, pits, and holes before over wrapping
Long Term Corrosion Protection
To ensure a repair lasts for the life of the asset, you must protect the metal surface from the environment:
- 301 Epoxy Resin & Hardener: Used with glass tape to create a reinforced “shroud” around the pipe, providing superior chemical & corrosion resistance
- 208 Ceramic UW: Ideal for pipes in wet or underwater environments where traditional coatings fail to adhere
Why Choose Resimac Industrial Solutions?
Proactively choosing the right system to repair a leaking pipe can save thousands in replacement costs. Whether you are dealing with wastewater, chemical coolants, or high pressure steam, Resimac products are engineered to withstand the harshest industrial conditions.

Resimac Real World Application: Steel Wastewater Pipe Repair
The Problem: A failed weld joint on a steel wastewater pipe required urgent repair to prevent further leakage and corrosion.
The Solution:
- Workers drained the industrial pipe and prepared the substrate using mechanical grinders
- They applied a 2mm layer of 101 Metal Repair Paste to bond a preformed steel plate to the leak site
- They then encapsulated three layers of glass tape with 301 Epoxy Resin and Hardener and applied them around the pipe circumference for structural reinforcement
- Finally, they overcoated the entire area with 501 CRSG for maximum chemical resistance
The Outcome: The repair effectively sealed the leaking pipe, restored structural integrity, and avoided the massive cost of a full pipe replacement.
