The Problem
A major industrial facility faced a critical operational crisis when a high performance pump impeller failed during a chemical processing cycle. Upon contacting the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), the client was informed that the specific part had been declared obsolete. Procuring a modern equivalent and modifying the existing system would have required a 26 week lead time, resulting in six months of catastrophic production downtime and substantial revenue loss.
The Solution
To mitigate this downtime, a precision reclamation strategy was implemented to salvage and rebuild the original pump impeller. The process began with abrasive blasting to ensure a clean, profiled substrate for maximum adhesion. Structural integrity was restored by embedding stainless steel mesh into Resimac 106 Metal Repair Paste XF, providing immediate reinforcement to fractured areas. The complex internal geometry was then fully reprofiled using Resimac 101 Metal Repair Paste, a high-strength material capable of withstanding intense mechanical stress. Finally, the entire pump impeller was encapsulated in two coats of Resimac 511 UCEN, a high build novolac coating engineered to provide a superior barrier against aggressive chemical attack and abrasion.
The Outcome
- The pump impeller was restored to service in just days, bypassing the 26-week lead time for a replacement part
- The repair was achieved at a fraction of the cost of sourcing and installing a new OEM-equivalent system
- Precision engineering saved a critical pump impeller that would otherwise have been scrapped
- The 511 UCEN coating provided the asset with better protection against acids and alkalis than the original factory finish
- The smooth, ceramic enhanced finish of the repair materials improved fluid flow efficiency
- The client avoided a prolonged production downtime, ensuring the long term operational continuity of their chemical processing line
